Top 5 Foods that can fight inflammation in your body

The most common foods known to contribute to inflammation in your body are:

🔥ADDED SUGAR AND HIGH-FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP

🔥ARTIFICIAL TRANS FATS (PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OIL)

🔥REFINED CARBOHYDRATES

🔥PROCESSED MEAT

🔥VEGETABLE AND SEED OILS

On the flip side, there are foods and drinks that reduce inflammation, and with it, chronic disease:

1. Fruits and Veggies

Go for variety and lots of colour. Research shows that vitamin K-rich leafy greens like spinach and kale are rich in natural antioxidants and polyphenols. These protective compounds are found in plants and reduce inflammation, as do broccoli and cabbage. So does the substance that gives fruits like cherries, raspberries, and blackberries their color.

2. Fatty fish

Fatty fish are a great source of protein and the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

EPA and DHA help reduce inflammation, which may otherwise lead to metabolic syndrome, heart disease, diabetes, and kidney disease.

Whilst all types of fish contain some omega-3 fatty acids, salmon, sardines herring and mackerel are among the best sources

3. Avocados

Avocados (yum!) are packed with potassium, magnesium, fibre and heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. They also contain carotenoids and tocopherols, which are linked to a reduced risk of cancer.

4. Turmeric

Turmeric, a spice with a warm, earthy flavor that’s often used in curries and other Indian dishes, has received a lot of attention over the last decade because it contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound. Research has shown that turmeric reduces inflammation related to arthritis, diabetes, and other diseases.

Your daily turmeric latte, however, may not cut it in terms of achieving sufficient anti inflammatory benefit. In fact, it seems the best and most potent form of curcumin is taken as a supplement, and when combined with piperine (from black pepper) absorption of the curcumin is significantly boosted.

5. Extra virgin olive oil

Extra virgin olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fats, a staple in the Mediterranean diet, one of the key ingredients in EVOO is oleocanthl- a powerful anti inflammatory substance. It is important to keep in mind that extra virgin olive oil has greater anti-inflammatory benefits than refined olive oils do.
